The Blenheim Conference – The Silent Alliance: 300 years of Anglo-German Cooperation 
CDiSS joined the British Army’s Strategic and Combat Studies Institute, the British-German Officers’ Association, the German Armed Forces Military History Research Institute and the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies to present the Blenheim Conference. The conference examined British-German co-operation and influence over the last 300 years by the presentation and discussion of a number of topics of mutual historical and current interest. The first day considered the historical context of the British-German military relationship. The second looked at contemporary activities focusing on co-operation in multinational military operations.

"Entente Cordiale", Evening reception and dinner
On the 15th November, a reception and dinner in celebration of the Entente Cordiale took place at the Travellers Club, London. Entitled "Improving Security Co-operation" the evening was co-hosted by the New Security Programme and the French High Committee for Civil Defence. The event was intended to provide a forum in which the security directors of British and French companies could meet and discuss opportunities for closer co-operation in rising to meet the challenges of the new security environment.

The conference was based on the notion that Europe, the Euro-Mediterranean and the Black Sea regions are increasingly interdependent for their political, economic and socio-political security. Its aims were: to assess the existing and anticipated challenges to security; to evaluate existing approaches by the major regional institutions and by their individual members; and to develop responses to these current and anticipated challenges in the short, medium and longer-term.
